A Warm Hello from Christ Church!

remembrance feature

Located on McDermott road, 5-10 minutes walk from Peckham Rye Train Station, our church is made up of people from all walks of life who have a common belief in Jesus and His love for each one of us.

You may be interested to know that Christ Church McDermott was the site of the first Religious Radio Broadcast to a UK Church (watch re-enactment here), and recently featured on Songs of Praise on 1/9/24. You can view clips of that show on twitter or facebook.

We love to see new people and we really hope that you will feel right at home.
Our Sunday mornings begin with a warm welcome from our greeters and our service begins with an invitation to join in thanksgiving and praise to God.
Our worship is a comfortable mix of contemporary songs as well as familiar well loved hymns, and we encourage young and old to join together in song.
We look forward to a time of refreshing and encouragement as we put time aside to spend with God and with each other.

Food Bank Donations

As done in previous years, we will continue to collect donations to give to  a local food bank, the Salvation Army in Nunhead. In the run up to Christmas, we welcome donations of fruit juice (long life only), UHT Milk, pasta, cereals and rice, as well as canned goods such as soup, fruit, vegetables, meat, fish. Donations of toothpaste, shower gel or soap, deodorant, toilet rolls, nappies, baby wipes, dog and cat food are also very welcome. Please do bring these in during the church open times, typically Sundays morning, 1030am-1230pm, and Sunday evenings 5.15pm-6.45pm.

In addition to supporting food banks twice yearly, we are also active in our local community, as evidenced by our close links to a local youth club.
Internationally, we support missionary outreach, the persecuted church and community projects as our expression of the love of God in a practical way.

The doctrinal basis for our beliefs is as per the statement found in the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches (FIEC), For more detail please see What We Believe.

Site of first Religious Radio Broadcast to a UK Church

on air

Built in 1880, our church holds a unique place in history as the site of the first religious radio broadcast to a UK church. This groundbreaking event which took place on the 30th July 1922, allowed worshippers in Christ Church to hear Dr James Ebenezer Boon as he broadcast from Blackheath, paving the way for modern Christian broadcasting.

In 2023, Paul Kerensa a well known writer and comedian, visited the church and re-enacted the broadcast, as shown here.

history

From its early days, our church has been a beacon of faith, committed to spreading the Gospel through both traditional and contemporary means. Today, we continue to honor this legacy, fostering a community feel, rooted in the love of Christ and dedicated to serving our neighbors with compassion as part of our Christian values.
