Welcome to our blog: Life's Lessons in Little things.😊

June 2026

The log in my eye...

Recently, after a bit of decluttering, I found we had a number of items to donate, and decided that in the coming weeks, I would take them over to a local open air donation hub.

As I was unsure of their hours of operation, I decided to walk over to the place to get some initial information. Drawing closer, I noticed there appeared to be 2 main groups of people – the volunteers in high viz jackets who were directing /assisting people, and the potential "recipients”, ie those who had come to see if they wanted to take any of the donated items.

Why this thought popped into my mind I am unsure, but I decided that if there were 2 main groups, I needed the volunteers to be clear that I was in fact aligned to a 3rd group, ie the donors. I did not want to be mistaken for a possible recipient! (Truly pathetic!). So, still under this sad delusion of grandeur, I lifted my chin, drew myself to my full height (which isn't much), and stepped forward confidently with my “donor” walk...

After finding out their days of operation, I moved on toward my next destination. At this point I felt the Lord’s gentle nudge. With shame it dawned on me how hypocritical and prideful my thoughts and attitude had been 🤔.For you see..my next destination was a charity shop!! The British Heart Foundation -  to look for donated furniture items!!🫤

How patient God is with our failings and nature!

I silently apologised and thanked God for opening my eyes ! Oh, how very easy it is to see flaws in others, and yet our own faults are lurking just under the surface.

May the Lord help us to work on those “logs in our eyes” before pointing fingers toward the specks in others eyes..😇

Verse of the month..

Matthew 7:5 You Hypocrite! First take the log out of your own eye, and then you will be able to see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye..

Planning your Visit

Greetings from Christ Church!

Easter -daffodils

Located on McDermott road, we are 5-10 minutes walk from Peckham Rye Train Station, or 10 mins walk from the Nigel Road bus stop on Peckham Rye ( Buses 343, 12 etc).

Our Sunday mornings begin with a warm welcome from our greeters and our service begins at 11am with an invitation to join in thanksgiving and praise to God.

The church is made up of people from all walks of life who have a common belief in Jesus and His love for each one of us. We love to see new people and we really hope that you will feel right at home.

You may be interested to know that Christ Church McDermott was the site of the first Religious Radio Broadcast to a UK Church (watch re-enactment here), and has featured on Songs of Praise on 1/9/24. You can view clips of that show on twitter or facebook.

Our worship is a comfortable mix of contemporary songs as well as familiar well loved hymns, and we encourage young and old to join together in song.

We look forward to a time of refreshing and encouragement as we put time aside to spend with God and with each other.
